Social
Singing
Hadleigh Choral Society has a varied and active social side. Being a member of the choir and therefore part of the local music network, some of our members have extended their singing by joining other choirs in the area: Sudbury, Bury, Ipswich for example.
Dining
If food be the music of love…….(as the Bard didn’t quite say). We have an active Diners’ club which meets between October and June, about 5 times a year, in a local pub or restaurant to sample the menu and have a good time. Recent sessions have been held in Chelsworth, Great Tey, Lavenham, Stoke by Nayland, Monks Eleigh, Polstead, Newton Green, Boxford, Somersham, Bildeston, Assington, Lindsay, Flatford, Sudbury and in Hadleigh. Special visits were made to Tannington Hall and also the Lady Florence (river trip from Orford). If the next visit is planned already, it will be detailed on the Members' Calendar, with a link to the menu.
The cost includes a small donation to funds and has raised nearly £700 over the last 6 years.
Quizzes
In the last 8 years, we have fielded a team in the annual Ipswich Arts Association quiz and have won it three times and been runner-up 4 times.
We held a very successful Quiz evening in October 2011. Sixty people enjoyed a Pate 'n' Plonk evening with some quirky questions and a chance for choir members to socialise.
And at the URC hall in a fund raiser for the Ansell Community Centre, our team won thanks to the 3 choir members - Jackie Mitchell, Jean Styles and Jeffrey Rudman.
Soirée
And instead of entertaining others, this event gives us a chance to be entertained. A summer evening held in the house and grounds of one of our members, this event is open to our members and families, and also the Friends of Hadleigh Choral Society.
